Summer Racial Justice Opportunities With Osheta Moore

Gloria Dei’s work with Pastor Osheta Moore continues this summer with two special focuses. See below to see how you can get involved in this on-going project.

Juneteenth ‘Eve’ event

All are invited to a Juneteenth Celebration at Gloria Dei on Wednesday, June 18, 7-8:30 p.m., in Fellowship Hall. Join our Gloria Dei community to:

  • Learn from Pastor Osheta Moore.

  • Build beloved community.

  • Consider the “why”of our racial justice work.

  • Enjoy celebration cake.

We are excited that Pastor Moore will be with us. She will lead our conversations and help us to learn to pray “I am beloved. You are beloved. We all are beloved.” Osheta will be happy to sign your books. To learn more about this event, visit the Racial Justice Committee table across from the library between Sunday services.

Monday Evening Book Group

This is your invitation to join a summer book group to read and discuss Dear White Peacemakers: Dismantling Racism with Grit and Grace by Osheta Moore. The Racial Justice Committee will host four consecutive Monday evenings in the Gathering Place on June 23 through July 14 from 6:30-8 p.m. The facilitators will be Dr. Deanna Thompson, Pastor Jodi Houge, Paula Hutchinson and Baya Clare. The book is available for purchase at Black Garnet Books, 1319 University Ave S., or from most of your favorite sources. There will be iced tea and maybe cookies!  Click here to sign up online or at the table across from the library most Sundays. Look for the poster.
