The Weekend Backpack Program Committee thanks each of the many volunteers who have been generous with their time and money over the past school year. We could not help fight childhood hunger in our neighborhood without you.
The Weekend Backpack Program will continue to distribute food to Highland Park Elementary (HPE) families this summer. Food drop-off and distribution dates are Wednesdays, June 16, July 21 and August 18, at Gloria Dei.
We are asking 12 families to bring a bag of fresh food to Gloria Dei from 5-5:30 p.m. on those dates. Volunteers, including Gloria Dei youth, will distribute the food from 5:30-6 p.m. to HPE families. Learn more and sign up or email questions to Mary Jo Hallberg. A special thanks to Kate Giambelluca, Angie Sherwood, Kathy Kruger and Steven Peterson who packed, moved food to HPE and were there every Wednesday during the school year. Their dedication to helping families with care and dignity is evident in everything they do. A thank you to Dr Flynn, Principal at HPE, Deb, and staff and teachers at HPE who continue to see the need and support our efforts. The Weekend Backpack Program will return to food in backpacks in the fall.
