Prayers of the People, Second Sunday of Advent, December 9, 2018

Oremos, let us pray.

For the church of Christ throughout the world
called by God to prepare all flesh for the coming of Jesus,
and to proclaim hope in the face of despair,
light in the midst of darkness,
and liberation in response to oppression.
For our planet that groans under the weight of misuse and over-consumption,
and for people and places experiencing the effects of global warming,
especially those recovering from wildfires in California.
Come, Lord Jesus.

Oyenos, mi Dios. Listen to your people. Oyenos mi Dios.

For our nation:
for the institutions of government
that ensure the health and vitality of our democracy;
for leaders who model honesty, integrity, and compassion;
for our political discourse,
that we might be inspired to practice civility
in our interactions with those with whom we disagree;
and for an end to racism
and fear of those whose language, culture, or religion are different from our own. Come, Lord Jesus.

Oyenos, mi Dios. Listen to your people. Oyenos mi Dios.

For those among us and for our neighbors near and far
who find themselves living in exile:
for immigrants and refugees fleeing violence in their homelands,
and especially for children separated from their families at the border;
for those displaced by the conflict in Yemen;
for those struggling with addiction or mental illness;
for those who are hungry or homeless, especially our Project Home guests;
for those who are lonely or feel forgotten;
for children in schools that are struggling;
for elders living in care facilities;
for those who are dying and all who grieve;
and for those we name now, silently or aloud.
Come, Lord Jesus.

Oyenos, mi Dios. Listen to your people. Oyenos mi Dios.

Listen to your people, O God, for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
