Bulletin Assembly @ R221
May 24 @ 9:00 am – 11:00 am
Soul Food @ Colonial Room
May 24 @ 9:30 am – 11:00 am

Soul Food meets most Fridays of the school year to discuss a book from a faith perspective. We read a few chapters at a time, and enjoy rich discussions and engaging conversations. In addition we take time to reflect on the upcoming Sunday’s gospel reading, and pray together. All are welcome to join us as we gather to discuss one or all of the books through the year.

Our last book for this program year is The Case for God, by Karen Armstrong. Where does religion come from? How did ancient cultures begin to understand what they mean by the Divine, and how did their understanding influence the way they lived their lives?  Starting from the earliest civilizations, Armstrong traces the role spirituality has played in the life of people through a variety of world religions. Her study helps us consider why religion may play a less important role in modern society and what that might mean for us.

Whether you’ve been part of Soul Food before or are starting with us for the first time, you are welcome.

The Case for God, by Karen Armstrong.

Sanctuary Renewal Conversation @ Gloria Dei Sanctuary
May 26 @ 9:20 am – 9:50 am

The Sanctuary Renewal Task Force presents the proposed design for congregational study, discussion, and consideration — today and in the months to come.

Throughout its work to address the needs identified by the congregation, the Sanctuary Renewal Task Force has been guided by the ELCA Principles of Faith, which state, “The renewal of [worship] space is a renewal of the faith community.” Renewing our space will also renew each of us and prepare us to expand Gloria Dei’s historic leadership role in supporting faith, community, and justice into the future.

Join us in the nave, at the front of the sanctuary, between services from 9:20 – 9:50

May 26: Together we’ll walk through a spatial tour of what the Master Plan proposes. Come and envision your vantage point from your favorite seats.

June 2: Q&A with staff and the Sanctuary Renewal Task Force. Bring your burning questions and they’ll do their best to answer every last one.

June 9: Hear about the limitations and musical challenges and how the Master Plan proposes to address them. How will our musical experience be improved for the congregation and for our musicians?
