Children’s Christmas Worship Service

In 2019, the children led a special Christmas Worship called "Too Many Shepherds." It was a powerful message that there can never be too many shepherds! We can all be shepherds by going out to share the good news of Jesus' birth.

Stay tuned for how the children will help share the good news in 2021! The rest of this page will be updated once we have specific details for Christmas 2021.

Beginners, Preschool & Kindergarten children do not attend this rehearsal

Grades 1 – 4: meet in Sanctuary 10:00 -11:00 a.m.

Grade 5 & 6: meet in Sanctuary 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Gloria Dei has a long tradition of inviting children to play their own instruments during the prelude. This year, some children will also play for the offertory.

The Children’s piano prelude will start promptly at 10:15 am. Plan on arriving 15 minutes early to settle into position. Meet by the piano in the Sanctuary and check in with Becky, who will give you further instructions.  Because of time constraints, the children are limited to only one song.

Children who have a nativity character or speaking role in the program are also welcome to play. Simply mark the appropriate box on the registration form.

Please register your children who want to play in the prelude.

9:30 a.m. Only 5th and 6th Graders arrive and meet in the Colonial Room

10:00 a.m. The rest of the children meet at church in the following areas:

3s and 4s in their regular classrooms
Kindergarten in Room 203
Grades 1-4 in Room 100

10:15 a.m. Children's Prelude begins in Church Sanctuary.

10:45 a.m. Children’s Christmas Program begins in Church Sanctuary.

Reserved seating in front for two adults for each 3- and 4 year-old and Kindergarten child. Please, only 2 persons per child, so there is room for everyone. Once the children are done singing they will be dismissed to sit with their parents during the program.

After Worship, pick up your 1st-4th grader in Room 100.

5th and 6th graders meet in the front of the Sanctuary for a group photo.

Christmas Cookie Reception for all follows in Fellowship Hall.

A Christmas Cookie Reception for all follows the program in Fellowship Hall. All Sunday School families are requested to donate 2 dozen Christmas Cookies to the reception.

Drop off cookies in the kitchen on Saturday, prior to the worship service or at the latest Sunday morning by 9:30 am.

Some may want to consider bringing a Safe Cookie alternative: gluten free, nut free, dairy free, and egg free alternatives welcome. Please mark them!

If you prefer not to bake, let the Women of Gloria Dei do your baking! Cookies will be freshly baked and delivered in time for the reception. Place your cookie order with the Women of Gloria Dei!

3 year olds, 4 year olds and Kindergarten children will be sheep! They can dress in their regular clothes and then they will be given sheep headbands.

Grades 1-6 will be dressed as shepherds. They can dress in their regular clothes and then they will be given shepherd headpieces. If a child and parent prefer to make a DIY shepherd costume in addition to the headpiece that is great but not mandatory. An idea would be to have them wear a robe over their regular clothes if they want. Some shepherds may be holding a sheep stuffed animal. If you have a sheep stuffed animal we can borrow, please contact Kyrstin or bring it to her office.

5th and 6th graders have a variety of roles and will be fitted for costumes during class.

Parent Volunteers play very important roles for our Christmas Program. Please sign up to help.
