Walking Club

Free, open to any fitness level, no registration necessary

As along as the weather cooperates, the Thursday Morning Walking Club will continue walking in September. Our walkers meet Thursdays from 9-10 a.m. and it’s free. To date, they have walked from Jerusalem to Lydda – 30 miles! Lydda is the city where Peter healed Aeneas, bedridden 8 years (Acts 9:25). Peter went next to Joppa, our goal for this year … we have only 10 miles to go! Meet briefly in the Gathering Place and then head out to walk in the neighborhood.

Keep On Growing Stronger

Free, open to any fitness level, no registration necessary

Growing Stronger, a twice-weekly fitness program, resumes its regular program year on September 4. It meets Monday and Wednesday mornings, 9-10 a.m. in the Gathering Place. We follow the evidence-based Go4Life program that incorporates the 4 essentials: balance, cardio, strength and flexibility. We provide yoga mats, hand weights and exercise bands.

Yogadevotion Resumes Sept. 3

$72 for 8-session series; we need 10 prepaid participants; open to anyone

Yogadevotion meets Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m., starting September 3. Yogadevotion is a practice of breath, prayer and movement led by a trained yoga instructor. Yogadevotion encourages healthy living and a peaceful presence. Pastor Cindy Senarighi, ordained pastor in the ELCA, writes the reflections on scripture. Yogadevotion incorporates poses that increase range of motion, improve balance and bring attention to the breath. Whether you are just beginning to explore the benefits of yoga or are familiar with yoga and its benefits, you are welcomed to this community for everybody and classes offer modifications for all poses. Please contact Parish Nurse Jill Stewart (651-699-1378 ext. 3031) to register for classes or with questions. Dates for the 8-session series are:

  • September 3 – October 22
  • October 29 – December 17
  • January 7 – February 25
  • March 3 – April 28 (does not meet April 7, Holy Week)
  • May 5 – June 23

New T’ai Chi Class each Thursday in October

Free, open to any fitness level, registration requested, walk-ins welcome

Sponsored by the Gloria Dei Third Chapter, we will hold T’ai Chi classes each Thursday in October (all dates are on the calendar) in the Gathering Place from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. Meditation in Movement, T’ai Chi as a Spiritual Practice, is a way to express, “Here I am God,” to receive the breath of God and to open to the movement of God.  Join us and learn a gentle and accessible introductory form of T’ai Chi called the “Dance of the Five Elements.” Gloria Dei member Nancy Agneberg, a spiritual director, leads the classes and will accommodate any physical limitations. We request registration, although walk-ins are always welcome. To learn more, email Nancy (nagneberg48@gmail.com) or call her at 608-698-8100.
