On April 9, 2019, the Sanctuary Renewal Task Force presented the proposed new Master Plan to Gloria Dei’s Congregational Council. This plan covers the replacement and relocation of the organ and it details a comprehensive redesign and renewal of the Chancel, Nave, Chapel, and Narthex. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Council authorized the Task Force to introduce the Master Plan to the Congregation.
Please join us on Sunday, May 19th, immediately following the second service for an introduction to this plan. Lunch will be provided. RSVP here.
The May 19th presentation of the Master Plan will be led by architect Jim Hundt of Foresight and Associates and followed by Andrew Forrest, representing Orgues LeTourneau, our organ builder. After the presentation, Mr. Hundt, Mr. Forrest, and members of the Sanctuary Renewal Task Force will answer questions. The congregation’s continued guidance on the renewal proposed in the Master Plan is critical.
Months of preparation and hundreds of hours of volunteer time have gone into preparing the Master Plan Report. The Task Force is particularly proud that the design was driven by Gloria Dei members. The information was gathered at the workshop last November. More than 120 people participated. The three priorities that the congregation clearly laid out are reflected back in the Master Plan.
They are: (1) the commitment to tradition and beauty, (2) the need for flexibility and access, and
(3) the desire to reach out to the community. Following this introduction to the Master Plan on May 19, the congregation will have many opportunities for feedback and suggestions in the months ahead. Presentations, small groups, and individual conversations are being planned. A final proposal will be submitted to the members of Gloria Dei at a Congregational Meeting on September 15.
Seventy years ago, members of Gloria Dei made a major commitment to the current design of our sanctuary and it has obviously served us very well. Now, it’s our turn to look ahead. Renewing our worship space will help renew us as a congregation. It will help us build on our leadership role in faith, community, and justice long into the future.
Please help us prepare for you. Follow the links to register, reserve childcare, and to make a free will offering to help us offset the cost of lunch. RSVP below. Registration deadline is May 16.
