Deanna Thompson: Glimpsing Resurrection Discussion Group

You are invited to dig deeper into Glimpsing Resurrection: Cancer, Trauma, and Ministry with author and GDLC member Deanna Thompson.

Deanna graciously agreed to lead a second two-session discussion group on Tuesdays, June 11 and 18, 6:30-8 p.m. in room 203. You are invited to participate whether or not you were part of the first discussion group.

Deanna Thompson is professor of religion at Hamline University, where she also teaches courses in African American Studies, Women’s Studies, and Social Justice. She is a respected scholar in the theology of Martin Luther, and since her 2008 diagnosis of stage IV breast cancer, Thompson has been writing and speaking about the intersection of faith and illness. Her just-released book, Glimpsing Resurrection: Cancer, Trauma, and Ministry, draws on new research on illness-related trauma to help us better understand the experiences of those who live with serious illness, and to draw on resources from our faith traditions and communities to more fully support those undone by illness and other awfulness.

Limited group size. Register by emailing Penny Langguth Thorkildson:
Books may be purchased in the church office ($20; checks payable to Deanna Thompson) or through various online booksellers.
Participants: If possible, please read the Foreword, Introduction, and chapters 1 & 2 prior to the first meeting.
This event is sponsored by GDLC Mental Health Ministry.
