The ELCA adopted the AMMPARO (Accompanying Migrant Minors with Protection, Advocacy, Representation, and Opportunities) strategy at the 2016 ELCA Churchwide Assembly to address the needs of the thousands of unaccompanied children and migrant families who come to the U.S. each year. Gloria Dei is enrolled as a welcoming congregation within the AMMPARO program.
The AMMPARO strategy includes the Guardian Angels program. Guardian Angel volunteers accompany migrant children and families as they go through the U.S. immigration court system, providing the physical presence of the church in the courtroom.
The Saint Paul Area Synod will be hosting a Guardian Angels training session on Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 9:00 am – 11:30 am in Fellowship Hall at Gloria Dei to prepare volunteers to attend immigration court. The Guardian Angels training is open to anyone interested in being more involved in immigration and justice work.
Please sign up here by Monday, April 29. If you have any questions, you can contact Elise d’Entremont, Guardian Angels volunteer coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org. For more information about AMMPARO, and for additional resources about immigration, go to www.elca.org/AMMPARO.
