During the month of August, in honor of world-wide migrants and refugees, The Basilica of Saint Mary is hosting a large sculpture called “Angels Unawares.” It features over 140 refugees through history. The communities of Gloria Dei and Lumen Christi have partnered to accompany the sculpture on Thursday, Aug. 19.
As partners, we have several volunteer opportunities available (four per shift). In addition to set up, you can help engage visitors to listen to stories and testimonies; distribute educational materials; or lead children’s activities. You can help plan and deliver a prayer service during the 5-7 p.m. shift that will involve moments of reflection, immigrant’s stories and prayer for/or about migrants, refugees or immigration. Set up is from noon to 1 p.m. The other shifts are 1-3 p.m., 3-5 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.
Please sign up below. Contact Julie Printz (651-308-5750) from Gloria Dei or John Benda (651-269-9685) from Lumen Christi with any questions.
