Gloria Dei

"I am a “child” of God, even though..."
Reading of the Day: Revelation 3:20

I am a “child” of God, even though I’m an adult. Yet, I have memories of several faith-forming events from when I was a child.

As a child attending Bible camp, I learned the song “Into my heart, into my heart, Come into my heart, Lord Jesus. Come in today; come in to stay. Come into my heart Lord Jesus.” When I grew older, I learned the Bible verse from Revelation 3:20:

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”

A third memory from my childhood was a picture in my bedroom that represented that verse, with Jesus standing at a door and knocking. The door had no door handle on the outside. It could only be opened from the inside. These three memories from my childhood have been important to me. As an older child, before confirmation, I asked Jesus to enter into my life. As an adult, my faith in God and His Son, Jesus, has grounded me in times that have been difficult, especially when my husband died suddenly. In this community, I have grown in my faith by attending Bible studies and Lenten small groups. My faith has caused me to want to be involved in the life of this community of faith, Gloria Dei. I am a child of God, and He holds my hand on this journey of life.

PRAYER: Dear God, thank you for sending your Son, Jesus, to be my Savior. Thank you for my community of faith, Gloria Dei. By your Holy Spirit guide each of us as we remember the many blessings you give us each day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
