Gloria Dei

"Gloria Dei Is, and has been..."
Reading of the Day: II Corinthians 12:9
“My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.”

Gloria Dei is, and has been, a welcoming and nurturing place for me
to grow in faith. Soon after we moved to St. Paul, we attended worship at Gloria Dei, one of the first services in the beautiful sanctuary filled with beautiful music. The pastor called on us, and our second son was added to the list of babies from the old church who were to be baptized in the new sanctuary. The next Sunday, about thirty babies were baptized. I learned that as members of the congregation, we had a responsibility for being part of these little ones growing in faith. I decided that having taught school, I could teach Sunday school. One of the exiting things I learned was that I was free to ask questions without eyebrows being raised. I soon discovered I knew too little about the Bible. At Circle, we found that we did not understand Apostle Paul’s writings. I started pouring over the books about the Bible at the public library and reading the Bible. (A library at Gloria Dei was a dream of one member). I volunteered to teach Sunday school. I taught sixth grade and later ninth grade for years. By preparing the lessons, my faith in our risen Savior grew, and it has been a life-long journey. Gloria Dei, by its preaching, liturgy, hymns and music, Bible study and Christian fellowship, has fed me to grow in my faith and rely every day on our tremendously loving Awesome God through times of suffering and also joyous times. Truly a God worthy of our worship. Gloria Dei feeds us the risen Jesus’ body and blood at worship, where we meet our Lord and are strengthened.

PRAYER: Lord, thank you for your grace and growing my faith at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Amen.
