The hymn “All Are Welcome” reminds us of the commitment we made as a community to support our ministries with the renovation and expansion of our physical structure. Through the generous giving of members to the Capital Fund, we have:
- Completed an expansion of our building in 2002 that provided muchneeded Sunday School classroom space, meeting rooms, a beautiful Gathering Place and a more usable Fellowship Hall
- Performed significant, long-needed repairs and maintenance to our sanctuary, kitchen, steeple, heating and air conditioning system, telephone and security system, and other interior and exterior areas to bring those areas up to code and to improve the safety, efficiency and accessibility of our facility
- Created a welcoming building that is fully accessible to the disabled and elderly of our community
- Created a building that welcomes and serves many groups who have made Gloria Dei their primary meeting place, including the children who attend Young Christian Nursery, the quilters, Brownies, Alcoholics Anonymous, the International Dyslexia Association, and many others.
We continue to responsibly manage our mortgage:
- In five years, with up-front payments, mortgage payments and regular principal buy-downs, reduced the original project cost of almost $4.9 million for the building renovation and expansion to a current mortgage debt of less than $2.9 million
- Refinanced our mortgage twice, reducing our interest rate from an original rate of 7.65% to 6.25%, resulting in significant long-term interest savings and reducing our monthly payments by more than $1,400, allowing us to make regular principal buy-downs.
