| | | | | | | | | | | What a Sunday! Please Join Us! 1/13/2012 12:00 PMThis Sunday, January 15th, we invite you to be a part of a special day at Gloria Dei, full of wonderful opportunities for Worship and Christian Education! Please join us and take it all in! All are welcome!
At both the 8:15 and 10:30 a.m. Worship services, we are pleased to host Magnum Chorum under the direction of Christopher Aspaas. Magnum Chorum is a 50 voice chamber choir which was founded in the choral tradition of St. Olaf College and welcomes singers of all backgrounds devoted to musical excellence in sacred choral music. They will sing several anthems during the worship services here at Gloria Dei. Besides being the Music Director of Magnum Chorum, Dr. Aspaas serves as an Associate Professor of Choral/Vocal Music at St. Olaf College. Please be sure to be in worship to hear this excellent musical ensemble!
During Education Hour (9:15 am - 10:10 am in Fellowship Hall) Luther Seminary professor Mark Granquist helps Gloria Dei commemorate the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible. In America, this particular English version of the Bible has become so much more than just a translation, it has become a symbol or an icon of something much more. For some, the beauty and grandeur of its language make this version predominant. But for many the King James Version is the only acceptable translation, doctrinally correct, and a bulwark against liberalism and secularism. We’ll see how and why this attachment to a 400 year-old translation came to be.
At 5 p.m. join us for Feast at Eventide Worship.
And, at 6:30 p.m. the Faith and Health Ministry will host its 3rd Annual Forum on Health Care, The Cost of Dying in America: Are We Making Informed Decisions?
The cost, of course, is more than dollars. It is about the quality of life for individuals and the emotional toll on families. This year's panelists are Steven Miles MD physician and bioethicist at the University of MN and Dave Moen MD, Medical Director of Innovative Care Models at Fairview Inc. The moderator is Mark Hallberg, Attorney at Law. Mary Jo Hallberg, the Parish Nurse at Gloria Dei will discuss the unique role congregations can play in having conversations about life and death, quality of life, and how a person's faith informs end of life decisions. This event is free and open to the community.
