Schola Cantorum is directed by Timothy Strand

Schola Cantorum, Latin for “choir school”, is open to children in grades three through six and is not restricted to members of Gloria Dei.

Several years ago the Yamaha Piano Company had a wonderful magazine ad which pictured a little girl sitting on the floor playing with toys in front of a beautiful grand piano.  The “copy” of the ad said, “Long after the toys of childhood are gone the gift of music remains.”

Teaching children musical skills in a choir setting and helping them to grow in their understanding of worship truly is the gift of a lifetime!  Our young people will learn to use that unique instrument they all carry around with them – their voices – in singing the hymns and liturgies of the church and choral anthems which amplify the themes of the worship services.  A sense of rhythm and musicality is strengthened and great FUN is had by playing Orff instruments!

But most important of all, through their understanding of and participation in worship services, our young people will experience a sense of “belonging” in worship and a nurturing of their faith.

“Long after the toys of childhood are gone, the gift of music remains.”
