| Rev. Dr. Melvin A. Hammarberg 1961-1965 |  | Rev. Hammarberg was installed as Senior Pastor on March 1, 1961. In
August Reverend Donald E. Carlson was called as Associate Pastor. Dr.
S. Hjalmer Swanson continued as Visitation Pastor.
During Pastor Hammarberg’s tenure Helen Mae Gingold was the first woman
elected to Church Council, Friendship Club started and a Moller
three-manual pipe organ was installed. He was considered a great
preacher, he also oversaw the building expansion and renovation,
completed in 1964. In 1965 he resigned to become second president of
Lutheran Church in America, Minnesota Synod.
