| Reverend Dr. George E Whetstone 1966-1981 |  | Rev. Whetstone was called to be Gloria Dei’s Senior pastor in 1966.
During his ministry at Gloria Dei, congregational forums discussed
racial understanding, the 1960s student protest movement, and native
Americans. Barbara Lundblad was installed as director of youth
ministry in 1966. Gloria Dei participated in the Bethel Bible Series
and Pastor Whetstone was trained in instructing Bethel teachers. The
coffee fellowship between services was instituted, Highland Leisure Age
started meeting at Gloria Dei, children 10 years old were authorized
to receive Holy Communion, The Sharing Bank was established, Telephone
Devotions were initiated, antiphonal division of the organ was
dedicated, sponsored a Vietnamese refugee family, Monday morning
volunteer group formed, Board of Governors established by a change in
the church’s constitution which administered bequests and memorial, 3rd
Pastor added to the staff, Lutheran Book of Worship (green) introduced,
ramp to office entrance completed, Hand bell choir formed, four rank
pipe organ dedicated.
