Guidelines for Posting, Decorating, and Art Installations at Gloria Dei

Approved by the Congregation Council April 21, 2009

Places available for posting items:

  • Free-standing signboards: Today’s events postings including ongoing events. Please use these for the day’s events rather than long-term notices.
  • Designated bulletin boards: Some bulletin boards are designated for ministries, committees or subjects (e.g. Global Mission, Sign-Up board). These are labeled accordingly. Areas not consistently maintained will be reassigned to the next requesting committee. The art committee will gladly assist other groups and committees to select a bulletin board that will best meet their needs.
  • Bulletin Boards: You are welcome to use the bulletin boards and cork strips to publicize events. Some bulletin boards will be reserved for committees or ministries, while others will be made available for postings related to church events etc. The Art Committee will have a list of locations.
  • Cork Strips: in addition to bulletin boards in the Sunday school classroom areas, there will be cork strips installed in several areas for use by Sunday school children for events and decorations. We encourage and welcome the children to use these spaces for their events and celebrations.
  • Display Cases: Exhibits or displays for the locked display case in the east lower hallway will be coordinated by the Art Committee.
  • Classrooms and offices: Staff may decorate their offices and doors, and Sunday school teachers may decorate classrooms using cork strips and non-tape adhesives approved and provided by the office.
Please avoid temporary postings in these areas:

  • Gathering Place and Art Gallery. Think of them as “living room” areas.
  • Bare walls, pillars, or other architectural features
  • Doors and windows except for office or classroom space
  • Furniture, Pianos and furniture, including the Children’s altar near the Art Gallery and in room 100. Folding tables may have posters attached during events.

Tape is prohibited
The use of masking, scrapbook, gift-wrap tape, mailing or any other type of tape is
prohibited throughout the building.

Suggestions
  • Posting a few weeks before the event is a suggested time span, unless advance registration or other needs require extra time.
  • Respect others’ space needs: put up a reasonable number of posters for an event, and don’t forget to take down your posters after the event. Outdated or excessive items may be discarded.
Exceptions
Exceptions will be made for liturgical season decorations and church wide special events including Rally Sunday. Council may identify these events and let people know. Additional postings and decorations can be done for such events.

Liturgical banners and decorations
  • Seasonal/liturgical banners and other decoration in the sanctuary will be placed by the Visual Design Committee/Worship Committee. Seasonal/liturgical decorations may also be placed outside the sanctuary by those committees.
Artwork
  • Artwork will be installed by, or with the consent of the Art Committee.
  • The Art Gallery and adjacent walkway are limited to artwork placed by the Art Committee or by visiting artists who have received prior permission from the Art Committee.
  • Persons or groups wishing to donate Art may offer pieces to the Art Committee for consideration.
