Our Hymnal...
ELW
Evangelical Lutheran Worship - 2007
The primary worship resource for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Evangical Lutheran Worship, is the hymnal used at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.

In addition, Gloria Dei has licenses for the continued use of the many wondeful hymns / liturgy settings contained the Lutheran Book of Worship and With One Voice and prints those hymns in the Service Bulletins as needed.

Evangelical Lutheran Worship Reflects Churchwide Diversity Reflecting awareness of and attention to the differences that shape and enrich our worshiping assemblies in various contexts, Evangelical Lutheran Worship has become the new primary resource of the ELCA (and ELCIC). Borrowing from resources like Libro de Liturgia y Cántico and This Far By Faith, Evangelical Lutheran Worship seeks to reflect a cultural diversity that reflects congregational life across the church

generational, economic, and theological—contribute to the diversity of worship practices. Differences from place to place bring even more riches to our church. The content of Evangelical Lutheran Worship was developed collaboratively with the participation of people and congregations across North America. It draws on the various perspectives, experiences, and pieties that reflect the breadth of the church today.

The variety of hymns, songs, and liturgical settings will engage communities of faith in every corner of the church, contributing to a deeper sense of connection. Offering great flexibility for planning, this worship book enables assemblies in a wide variety of contexts to gather around the means of grace using a richly diverse yet common repertoire of prayer and song.

Unity in a Book Strong affirmation from the national assemblies of the Evangelical Lutheran church bodies in North America, along with the help of thousands of people from throughout the church, has moved us forward to the publication of a new worship book, Evangelical Lutheran Worship. This will be a core resource for our worship settings.

of an unfolding family of new worship resources. It is not so much comprehensive as it is richly representative, a grounded center that presents the breadth of a living tradition. This common mission reminds us that in Jesus Christ we are held together. Ongoing development of new resources will seek to promote the unity we share, rather than emphasizing uniformity.

Having a printed book at the center of a new generation of worship materials provides access to and ensures stewardship of our shared treasury of worship texts, hymns, and patterns. Holding and worshiping from this book reminds us that we are a broad and welcoming church, a church with many places and practices that enrich us all. This new book of worship helps us all to know and celebrate the historic riches of our worship and the new treasures before us.

As the primary worship book of the ELCA [and ELCIC], Evangelical Lutheran Worship will contribute to the sense that congregations are connected. As a communion of diverse local assemblies, we share in the same mission of God.
