Jubilate! is Gloria Dei's choir for students in grades 7-12. Directed by Margy Peterson since 2002, this choir offers singers an exciting entry into the world of choral harmony. Anthems encompass diverse time-periods, styles and cultures, and occasionally incorporate hand-bells and Orff instruments! Ear training, sight singing and form analysis find natural places in the rehearsal right next to fun with friends, and younger singers can trust the older singers to include them and answer questions.
Students who are in school choir will enjoy a special experience as they lift their voices in songs of faith. Instrumental players and friends from other churches are also very welcome. Jubilate draws from the age group who has regular acolyte, cantor and reader responsibilities, | | Jubilate (along with parents) sing for a worship service. | and all of those mesh well with choir participation.
Best of all, Jubilate's schedule fits easily into a busy week. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 5:00-6:00 p.m.; i.e. after sports practice and immediately before weekly supper and confirmation. We generally sing the second Sunday of October-April. Jubilate also joins Schola and Alleluia for a family Christmas service tradition. Since many students have additional commitments on Sundays, we usually sing at the early service.
Given our attention to schedule needs, interests, friendship and faith, singing with Jubilate! is great all-around "cross" training!
