Gloria Dei Lutheran Church will present "A Hymn Festival at Feast at Eventide" on Sunday, October 12, 2008, at 5:00 p.m. featuring Dr. Donald Busarow, organist with Gloria Dei choirs and instrumentalists
A noted composer of church music and a concert organist, Dr. Busarow has published more than 50 choral works, including several wedding solos, 100 compositions for the organ, and four volumes of works for organ and instruments. Dr. Busarow has written a sacred opera, and his setting of John Donne's poem "Death Be Not Proud," written for soprano, horn, and piano, won first prize in the International Horn Competition. An organ consultant, designer, and performer, he annually gives organ recitals throughout the country and is in frequent demand as a choral and organ clinician in church music workshops. Since 1976, Dr. Busarow has held positions as Director of Music at churches in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ohio (including St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Dayton). He regularly presents papers at professional meetings on topics such as "The Organist and the Hymn," "The Organ in Worship," and "Improvisation for the Church Organist." Busarow received a B.S. degree from Concordia Teachers College, a Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and a Ph.D. from Michigan State University. Since 1975 Dr. Busarow has served as Professor of Music at Wittenberg University at Springfield, Ohio, where he directs the Wittenberg Choir, the Chapel Choir, and serves as the University Organist.
Busarow’s settings of hymns are sung frequently at Gloria Dei and one, “Lord, Thee I Love With All My Heart,” can be heard on the CD recorded by our choirs.
