The Heartland Trail
Biking and InLine Skating
Retreat attendees can access the Heartland Trail within walking distance of the camp and provides for some great biking and inline skating.
 
The trails is approximately 48-mi blacktop from Park Rapids to Cass Lake. 28-mi from Park Rapids to Walker and 20-mi from Walker to Cass Lake. The trail passes through woods, farmlands, along lakes and marsh areas and over rivers. Connection to Mi-Gi-Zi Trail in Chippewa National Forest 2 mi S of Cass Lake to Pike Bay and Norway Beach Campgrounds. Walker is the junction of both Heartland and Paul Bunyan State Trails. Trail signed for non-motorized recreation except for snowmobiles. Dual treadway along most of trail.

Rules:

  • Stay on designated trails.
  • Keep right so others can pass.
  • Keep all pets on leash.
  • Obey traffic signs and rules.
  • Pack out all garbage and litter.
  • Respect adjoining landowners rights and privacy.
  • Warn other trail users when passing by giving an audible signal.
  • Some horses may be spooked by quiet bikers or in-line skaters. Let them know you are passing.
  • Overnight camping and campfires are permitted only on designated campsites.
  • Do not leave campfires unattended.
  • Enjoy the beauty of wild plants & animals, but leave them undisturbed for all to enjoy.

“The Men’s Retreat is something I always look forward to.  A fall weekend in the beautiful north woods of Minnesota is almost “spiritual” in itself and provides a wonderful setting to spend time connecting with other guys.  Certainly the activities in which we participate are enjoyable but it doesn’t take long to realize the retreat is really not about the activities, rather, it’s about meaningful Christian relationships with other men.  Those new friendships, the broadening of existing relationships, and the camaraderie which is developed when you spend a weekend on a retreat like this creates a powerful sense of belonging.  Everyone is so welcoming, caring and encouraging.  I think the apostle Paul puts it best…“so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others."
