Gloria Dei’s 100th Birthday Party was held on Sunday, May 18, 2008.
The final day of Sunday School was celebrated as a traditional birthday party for all ages – complete with cake, candles, balloons, and birthday presents! And...everyone sang “Happy Birthday” to our congregation. Young children took home a special present from the congregation -- a Gloria Dei Centennial coloring book.
A Surprise Guest from Gloria Dei’s past was with us! Yes, Pastor C. J. Karl (actually it was a current member of the congregation who did a great impersonation), Gloria Dei's first pastor was with us. He apologized for being late --- "I am sorry for not being on time for the party - I went to Victoria and Hague, where I preached every Sunday from 1908 - 1910, and there was no one there. You've moved!"
At the end of the party the entire congregation moved to the portico / front steps area of the church for an all congregation photo.
A day with filled with a lot of fun! Happy Birthday, Gloria Dei!
