 | Where in the World? |  | ASIA ELCA missionaries Ted and Janey Zimmerman Location: Hong Kong Ted and Janey Zimmerman are seminarians in Hong Kong. Ted is highly respected as a leader and has found many opportunities to work with the Chinese government and other religious leaders in Hong Kong and China. Janey has organized trips to mainland China with seminarians and other students to work at an orphanage. For 2011, Gloria Dei is providing $1,000 in support of the Zimmermans.
Lutheran Health Care Bangladesh Location: Dumki, Bangladesh Web site: www.lhcb.org LHCB provides health care with a focus on women and children in rural villages in southern Bangladesh. LHCB provides medical care with a 28-bed hospital and visits remote villages by boat and van. Its community development programs include deep well projects for safe water and sanitation, credit savings for women with basic education, and health education through schools. LHCB trains traditional birth attendants who reach almost 320 villages. In 2011 Gloria Dei provided $1,000 in support for LHCB.
CENTRAL AMERICA San Lucas Mission Location: San Lucas Tolimán, Guatemala Web site: www.sanlucasmission.org The San Lucas Mission has transformed the lives of the Mayan people there. Gloria Dei supports this Catholic mission’s efforts to encourage a self-sustaining economic basis for members of the community through an elementary school, a medical and dental clinic, and various projects, including pumping water to remote villages, a coffee export operation, reforestation effort, creation of a women’s center, and the resettlement of communities affected by natural disasters. Adult and youth groups from Gloria Dei visit every year. In 2011, our contribution was about $600.
Augustinian Lutheran Church of Guatemala, ILAG Location: 20 urban and rural congregations throughout Guatemala Web site: www.ilagpartners.org Founded in 1991 to minister to the indigenous poor, most affected by Guatemala’s 36-year civil war. The Augustinian Lutheran Church in Guatemala has a presence in 20 communities in Guatemala City and rural areas. ILAG operates two elementary schools in the capital. In 2005 the Saint Paul Area Synod formalized a companion synod relationship with ILAG. Missionary Amanda Olson de Castillo, a graduate of Luther Seminary, joined ILAG’s pastoral team in 2006. For 2011 Gloria Dei is providing $2,000 in support of her work. Gloria Dei also supports a synod health initiative in which Gloria Dei recently sent more than $1,800 for dry latrine construction.
GLOBAL Lutheran Partners in Global Ministry Location: Argentina, Central African Republic, and India Web site: www.lutheranpartners.org LPGM works with congregations and individuals locally and nationally through travel, volunteering, and relationship building. LPGM provides funding to construct or remodel churches, schools, hospitals, clinics, and community centers in India, Argentina, Central African Republic and India, and supports children in boarding schools in South India. In 2007, Gloria Dei provided about $250 to LPGM
