The Art Committee will host a gallery show of the work of artist Claire Anne Thoen November 30, 2007 through January 7, 2008. A reception and gallery talk with the artist will take place on Sunday, December 9, 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., in the lower level gallery. Ms. Thoen created new images, in honor of Gloria Dei’s Centennial celebration, that are included in the show.
Inspired by medieval and immigrant folk art such as wall paintings, weavings, and domestic utensils, Ms. Thoen seeks to draw the viewer into a close relationship with each image. Her colorful re-imaginings, executed in colored pencil and acrylic, show her admiration for the work of folk artists who make the ordinary extraordinary. Ms. Thoen’s show will include some of her Minnesota landscapes along with the Nordic images.
In addition to her Scandinavian heritage, Claire Anne Thoen’s background includes a B.A. in Fine Art from St. Olaf College as well as studies at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and at the Split Rock Arts Program.
